Draft — to be reviewed by a lawyer before public launch.
Summary
You can browse and download public resources without an account. We collect only what we need to run the service, we never sell personal information, and we show no advertising and use no third-party tracking on any page.
What we collect
Account data: email address (adults and teens), display name, role, age band (not a birth date), preferred language and password (stored as a one-way hash).
Child accounts (under 13): created by a parent; username, nickname, grade preferences and saved resources. No email address.
Content you create: uploads, collections, ratings, questions and answers.
Technical data: to count views and downloads we store a keyed, non-reversible daily fingerprint of your IP address, not the address itself. Security logs of administrative actions include IP addresses.
Teacher verification documents are visible only to administrators and are deleted after the review.
Why we use it (legal bases)
To provide your account and the features you use (contract); to keep the platform safe, prevent abuse and handle copyright notices (legitimate interests and legal obligations); to send the newsletter only if you confirmed your subscription (consent).
Cookies
We use only strictly necessary cookies: a session cookie when you log in and a cookie remembering your language. No analytics or advertising cookies.
Sharing
We do not sell or rent personal data. Service providers (hosting, email delivery) process data on our behalf under contract. We disclose information when the law requires it.
Retention and deletion
You can delete your account at any time from Account settings; this removes your profile, saved items, collections, ratings, questions and uploads. Logs are kept for up to 12 months for security.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR or US state laws) you may have rights to access, correct, delete or export your data and to object to processing. Use “Download my data” in Account settings or contact info@schoolqa.com.
Children
See our Children's privacy notice for how we handle information of children under 13 (COPPA) and how parents stay in control.
Schools
If a school uses SchoolQA in a way that involves education records, we act on the school's instructions under a written agreement (for example as a “school official” under FERPA) and use the records only for the school's purposes.
